Maternal serum AGEs levels in pregnancies associated with neural tube defects
2014, International Journal of Developmental NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :There was no significant difference in HbA1c and MDA level between these two groups. As hyperglycemia, food restriction during first trimester of pregnancy, diuretic intake and valproci acid intake have been proved to be associated with neural tube defects occurrence (Mills, 1982; Giardino et al., 1994; Robert et al., 1995; Rosa, 1989), we took these factors into consideration in this study. There are no significant difference between NTDs mothers and control mothers on the food restriction, diuretic intake and valproci acid intake.
Impact of bariatric surgery on obstetric prognosis
2013, Gynecologie Obstetrique et FertiliteCultural Considerations in the Care of Children with Spina Bifida
2010, Pediatric Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :Thus, although prevalence of prepregnancy obesity has been shown to be higher in African American women compared with white and Hispanic women,38 the type and percentage of fat tissue is greater for Hispanic women, which may help explain the increased prevalence of NTDs among children of Hispanic descent. Poor weight gain39 or weight loss early in pregnancy40 has been associated with increased risk of NTDs, although this seems to be independent of race/ethnicity.39 Acculturation and other demographic variables that may affect rates of NTDs among Hispanic mothers have been more thoroughly studied.
