All people in Canada will have access to a family practice/primary care setting that offers each person the opportunity to have his/her care provided by each of the following: a personal family doctor and a registered nurse and/or a nurse practitioner. Other health professionals, including pharmacists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians, social workers, and physician or medical assistants, may also be part of these practices.
CFPC Vision Statement on Inter-Professional Care1
Results from the 2007 National Physician Survey (NPS) indicated with whom family physicians regularly collaborated in providing patient care, and whether or not that collaboration was part of a formal arrangement (Figure 1).
The NPS is a collaborative project of the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the Canadian Medical Association, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Additional results are available at www.nationalphysiciansurvey.ca. If you would like the opportunity to develop and write a future Fast Fact using the NPS results, please contact Scott Butler, Manager of the National Physician Survey, at 800 387–6197, extension 416, or sbutler{at}cfpc.ca.
