Check out this month’s instructional video—“Draining a subungual hematoma.” Draining is indicated to relieve pain caused by subungual hematomas when the nail edges are unaffected. The decision to perform this procedure is based on the degree of pain, rather than the size of the hematoma. The video reviews the technique and equipment required.

The video “Draining a subungual hematoma” is available at www.cfp.ca. Go to this article online, then click on CFPlus in the menu at the top right-hand side of the page.
