Cover Image

June’s cover image comes from the Cancer Connections project of PhotoSensitive, a nonprofit collective of photographers exploring how photography can contribute to social justice. The large outdoor photographic display traveled across Canada, growing in each city, making a massive visual statement one could walk through and be surrounded by those touched by cancer. Kareen Burns, featured on our cover, was an important part of her Huntsville, Ont, community–a woman of action who liked to call herself a “gracefully evolving woman of eclectic good cheer.” She was a compassionate supporter of those affected by cancer. Family physicians also play an important role in supporting those affected by cancer. This issue includes a clinical review on one element of restoring quality of life for those who survive cancer: breast reconstruction after mastectomy (page 424) .
