I’m not sure how many patients we are losing to climate change. Or how many we ever will. And neither does anyone else. If the weather gets warmer, certainly some people may die who may not have died if the weather did not get warmer. If the weather gets colder certainly some patients will die who have not had died had the weather not gotten colder. If the weather stays the same, certainly some patients will die who would not have died had the weather gotten warmer or had the weather gotten colder.
Suggesting that our patients’ health on average will be worse should the overall temperature in Canada increase is an entirely speculative assertion.
It’s pretty cold in Canada. It is entirely possible that slightly warmer weather could end up being easier on the health of our patients than the kind of weather we currently enjoy.
Could warmer weather be more dangerous to the health of Canadians than our current weather?
No one knows, but I for one doubt it.Competing Interests: None declared.
