Cover Image

I first met Dr Maruyama at a health humanities conference when we were both medical students. I was struck by her enthusiasm and innovative way of thinking. Before medical school Michiko had studied design. During medical school, she created a series of drawings called "Daily Doodles." These colourful drawings helped her express her creativity and cement her medical knowledge at the same time. She shared them with her classmates at the time and now she shares them online. This month’s cover image from Michiko addresses 2 of this issue’s themes: procedural skills (as seen with an orange being used to practice injections) and cancer. —Sarah Fraser

—Sarah Fraser
