Cover Image

Dr Hassan Hazari, an ophthalmology resident at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont, painted this month’s cover image after observing cardiac surgery during medical school. The painting depicts heart valve replacement surgery and draws a contrast between the fine movements of the surgeons’ hands and the tempestuous task below. The swirl of uncertainty and heartbreak experienced over the past 2 years could be likened to a tempest, leaving many with lingering trauma. In our editorial (page 247), Dr Nicholas Pimlott reflects on how his clinic has grown and adapted to the pandemic, while a commentary provides a way to heal from trauma by adopting a kintsugi mind (page 252).
