This portrait by Dr Mark Gilbert, a researcher at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, NS, is from a series exploring health care experiences of older adults living with dementia. How such patients use acute care services and the frequent transitions they undergo are examined in this issue (page 114). A case report points to a reversible cause of dementia related to social determinants of health (page 103). These articles led Dr Nicholas Pimlott to reflect on aging well and the aspirations of the compression of morbidity hypothesis in his editorial (page 78).
