Cover Image

This month’s cover image was painted by the late Lili Wilde after full-body complex regional pain syndrome had set in, triggered by a car accident in 1999. It depicts her struggle with pain and loss of ability while still showing life in the left side of her face, the one place wherein she still had feeling and could escape. Chronic pain is explored further in this issue, with Dr Sarah Fraser providing insight on how to better understand patients with chronic pain (page 153). A commentary discusses how to merge clinical practice guidelines with data from noninvasive neuroimaging of the brain (page 158) and the program description emphasizes the importance of nonpharmacologic approaches and team-based care in chronic noncancer pain management (page e52).
