The hidden curriculum tends to place family medicine at the bottom of a metaphorical Jenga tower, with many deeming the discipline to be less important than others. However, as Dr Sarah Fraser indicates in her editorial (page 450), family medicine is not the bottom of the tower, it is the base. This month’s cover image reflects how family medicine is the foundation that supports the entire medical structure. While the breadth of their profession can be likened to a double-edged sword (page 490), family physicians’ ability to see the big picture allows them to provide excellent patient-centred care.

Alors que l’amplitude de leur profession peut être comparée à une arme à deux tranchants (page 490), la capacité des médecins de famille de voir l’ensemble du portrait leur permet de prodiguer d’excellents soins centrés sur le patient.
