These patients are excitedly anticipating pregnancy, but are there risks to the fetus when using assisted reproductive technology (ART)? Answer The current medical literature suggests only a mild increase in preterm deliveries, low birth weight, birth defects, and genetic imprinting defects. These results might, in part, be related to the indication for ART, rather than the ART itself.
