2017, Women's Health IssuesCitation Excerpt :Women scoring 16 or higher on the Short Blessed were excluded from the study. Scores of 10 or greater are associated with dementia (Katzman et al., 1983), but this does not take into account how race, ethnicity (Bohnstedt, Fox, & Kohatsu, 1994), and age impact cognition scores (Bleecker, Bolla-Wilson, Kawas, & Agnew, 1988). Because this population included older Black and White women, the authors chose to use a more liberal score of 16 as the cutoff (McSweeney, Pettey, Fischer, & Spellman, 2009).
