2023, Exploratory Research in Clinical and Social PharmacyInfluential factors in adherence to the therapeutic regime in patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertension
2021, Diabetes Research and Clinical PracticeCitation Excerpt :Researchers warn that only one in two patients with chronic conditions adhere to their medication [6]. Adherence rates are even lower for patients with both diabetes and hypertension, with one study reporting that only 12% (a range of between 6% and 30%) of its participants had controlled blood pressure [7]. There is a close link between poor adherence and uncontrolled hypertension, which, in the case of patients with diabetes and hypertension, significantly increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality.

2012, Journal of EthnopharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Rauwolfia vomitoria is a leading natural product antihypertensive herb which owes it activity to the indole alkaloid, reserpine. As a major complication of diabetes (McLean et al., 2006; Karou et al., 2011), four major antidiabetic plants in a Lagos State survey namely Carica papaya, Vernonia amygdalina, Citrus aurantifolia and Ocimum gratissimum (Gbolade, 2009) were also frequently incorporated into antihypertensive recipes of Edo State. Apart from Rauwolfia vomitoria, only Viscum album, Zingiber officinale and Allium sativum out of the nine principal plants have been scientifically investigated for antihypertensive activity.
